trim the wick
Before each burn, make sure to trim the wick to a 1/4". Wick trimming allows for an even burn and keeps the flame at a safe height. You can use a wick trimmer (coming soon to the shop!) or your fingers - just make sure the candle is cooled off before doing so. Don't worry about the first burn. we've trimmed it for you! :)
burn, burn, burn
The first burn is the most critical. Allow the wax to melt until it reaches the edge of the vessel. By doing this, you will ensure that the candle burns evenly and does not tunnel - that is when the wick burns straight down the center and leaves wax never reaching the edge. Tip: When burning, keep candle away from children, pets, drapes, and areas with a draft.
when to stop
Our candles should not be lit for more than 4 hours. Keeping the candle lit for longer will make the flame too hot and will shorten the candles burn life. When there is only 1/4"-1/2" of wax left, it's time to say goodbye. Continuing to burn a candle with little wax could cause the vessel to overheat. Tip: Over the heat? Use a candle snuffer or a wick dipper! Both of which will be hitting our shop very soon!
